Last night I went to Mayor Mikes on Asylum Street in Hartford. The place is asthetically pleasing. We waited a few minutes to be seated which surprised me because the place had maybe 3 tables occupied.
We wished that the perky waiter who sat us actually waited on us because our waitress appeared to be a newbie to the profession. It took her a while to take our drink orders and then deliver them and then she seemed surprised that we were ready to order when all 3 of our 3 drinks were finally delivered. (starting off on a bad foot)
We didn't get crazy with the amount of food we ordered...two sandwiches and a chicken entree and we all agreed that the food was good....though it took quite a long time to receive it (considering the simplicity of our order)....until I ate the paper/pesto grilled cheese.
Yes, I ordered the pesto grilled cheese which looked and sounded wonderful and it DID taste good until I realized I was eating a sheet of that paper that sometimes separates cheese slices.
When I pointed this out to the waitress she was apologetic but didn't even offer to take it off the bill so we asked (sort of suggested) "you'll be taking this off the bill right?" and she said yes and then asked if I wanted something else.
The manager (I think) arrived to simply say "oh, did I leave the cheese separator paper in there....I'll take that off the bill" Yeah, you will buddy and thanks for the apology...oh that's right you didn't give one.
All of that aside...I would give this place another try. really. The menu is vast, they have Smithwicks on tap and hopefully we'll get the zippy male waiter next time.
