Maya Bella - feh!

Made some last minute plans with friends yesterday and ended up at Maya Bella in Conshohocken. We had been there about a year ago and thought it had a lot of potential. I don't know what happened in the meantime, but the place is just awful! First of all, their A/C was broken, which they failed to mention when I called. But apart from the uncomfortable room temperature, the service was bad and the food was even worse! With the restaurant half empty, we couldnt't get their attention to order until we had been there for about 35 minutes. I had a polenta app that was just okay. The two pasta starters at our table were horrible: one was supposed to be mushroom ravioli with cream sauce, and the other a small pasta with pancetta, rabe, and cream sauce. My friend described the ravioli as "not worth eating;" the other pasta was oddly chewy with a watery sauce and little flavor. Fries were pretty good. Our mains were worse: an unfortunate repeat of the inedible mushroom ravioli, two servings of trout--unpleasantly prepared and (I think) not very fresh, and a tasteless linguine with a tiny amount of rock shrimp and approximately three mussels. When the waiter cleared our mostly full plates, I pointedly asked the others "was the trout that bad?" The waiter pretended not to hear. Luckily, we were with good friends, and they had brought some wonderful wines (too good for that lousy food), so we had good company and wine to enjoy. But I feel it my houndish duty to warn others.
