Well, my wife and I went by Maximitos (link attached) again yesterday, and I wanted to give you folks an update.
First of all, I am happy to report that Chef Eddies fire tacos and tacos al carbon are every bit as spectacular as they were at Tio Titos. The chile con queso was velvety smooth and loaded with flavor, and the salsa habañera (they rate it a 12 for heat on a 10-point scale!) was a wonderful addition (altho probably not for everybody). We couldnt resist another queso fundido (we went with the queso chihuahua - loaded with bacon, cilantro and green onion again), so we were pretty unbelievably full when we staggered out.
To start the meal, Owner Julie brought us three of their fifteen salsas (the firecracker, chipotle and ranchera) to try, along with pork rinds (a perfect sub for chips for the lo-carb, inclined) when we mentioned we were on Atkins. Maximitos tells their guests that they are happy to accommodate folks who are on the Atkins Diet, folks who are on the South Beach Diet, folks who are on the Zone Diet, folks who can only eat with their left hand on Thursdays . . . theyre the best restaurant Ive found for this. Any of their tortilla dishes (enchiladas, fajitas, burritos, tacos) can be made (for no extra dinero, which I consider pretty darn amazing, considering what those things cost) with lo-carb tortillas. My wife and I again got the grilled mixed veggies as a sub for the usual rice and beans.
It was a hot Sunday afternoon in Albuquerque yesterday, but Maximitos patio was pleasantly cool and shaded. As Ive mentioned in an earlier post, the beautifully remodeled interior of the restaurant is great, but the patio was so comfortable despite the days 96° heat that we opted to sit out again. I love the marble slab tables unbelievably SOLID (Eddie said it takes 4 men to move one) out there.
Julie told me that things were humming right along with the NM Alcoholic Beverage people, and she anticipates having the beer and wine license in place by 6 July. Eddie told me that they are thinking about instituting Ladies Night on Thursdays, and (not because of recent lawsuits, but because Eddie and Julie are just cool and creative) Mens Night on Fridays! Sweet!
Maximitos is at 606 Broadway SE (just S of Coal, on the E side of Broadway), (505)242-1222. Theyre closed on Mondays, and open 11:00 2:30 Tu-Fri for lunch, open 5:00 9:00 Tu-Sat for dinner, and open 12:00-6:00 on Sundays.
We felt our leisurely Sunday afternoon meal was the perfect cap to our weekend. Wonderful food and friendly, attentive service from the folks who actually run the place. You owe yourself a meal here!
