4 of us went to max in sherman oaks fri at 6:30. we have been there a few times over the past couple of years, and have been consistently happy, and fri was no exception. upon arrival, no valet in sight: they took the car keys and figured it out, good. our apps were: calamari salad, ahi tartare, hamachi carpaccio and caesar salad [yes, we are a sushi-loving bunch]. ahi tartare won the vote, 4-0, but the others were all good. entrees were: miso broiled chilean seabass, mushroom risotto, ny pepper steak and filet mignon. now, the risotto won, by a mile, and the 3 who didn't order it were the rave reviewers; [i love it when that happens; i'm the dad who sauteed carrots (occasionally in butter) for them 15 yrs ago and sold it as dessert at our dinners]. in the dessert contest, only 2 entries, as we were stuffed, but had to try: apple galette [with vanilla bean ice cream and caramel sauce] provoked a 4-way consumption contest. ['i'll just have a bite... daaaamn, get that plate bac over heare!] the pastry chef is credited on the menu, but not online, sorry to say; our applause continues days later. [for those keeping score, the lemon tart was good enough to be delicately remarkable, 350 other days of the year]. the place was packed when we left an hour later, and deservedly so. only question: the belgian fries came with no mayo. decent fries, but, wassupwidat [just curious]? we shall return. again and again.
