Some Maui Food Updates from past week:
Wei Wei Noodle House in Wailuku has terrific Pork Katsu, Chow Mein and Old Style Cantonese Pork fried rice, best simple macaroni salad we had on islands. Sam Sato another great standby/stop on way in from airport--dry mein a must--for takeout, small dining room sweet waitresses willing to recommend items.
--While waiting for late night flight back to mainland try Borders Bookshop Cafe. Very nice folks and ok coffees, desserts--open late--lots of tables/chairs.
--Kapalua: LOVED the breakfast muesli ($9) at the Ritz Carlton, creamy version with lots of fruit and nuts topped with fresh luscious berries; also grilled burgers at DT Fleming Beach hut moist and excellent.
--Honokowai/east of Napili: Try Hanokowai Okazuya Deli at 600-D Lower Honoapiilani Rd.665-0512 great spot for plate lunch, fish specials, teriyaki ribs and chicken in $6-10 price range (very willing to adjust cooking/prep to your diet-will do simple broiled meats with sauce on the side if you wish, with extra veggies instead of rice). Call in order for take out (no real seating, place gets very crowded).
--Lahaina Town: Smokehouse BarBQue (behind Hilo Hatties/Parking Structure) for good big plates of barbque ribs, burgers.
--Airport: Marco Italian Grill/Diner---thought it a good bet to stop off on way out to catch plane, but pricey for poor pasta salads and sandwiches.
