Maui Upcountry reviews- Long

Was staying in Haiku but went to a couple different places.

Charlies (Paia) - Breakfast twice, both time I had some kind of eggs benny (the first was a special on puff pastry with ono that was not that great). Good coffee.

Colleens (Haiku) - Breakfasts are really good here (avocado and bacon omelet, veggie eggs benny, french toast all good), I liked it better then Charlies. Pizza left something to be desired, but the portebella pasta was good for dinner.

Hana Huo (Haiku) - Everything we had here was good except for the sushi. Plate lunches (chicken curry), ahi poke, hana hou plate (various hawaiian dishes).

Hali'imaile General Store (Haliimaile) - Entrees and appetizers were excellent (ahi poke and pineapple upsidedown cake), the entrees were very good as well (Uku special, the uku at Mama's was better though and the duck).

Mama's fish house - Very good, but very pricey.

Tacos - went to 3 taco places. 1 in Haiku, 1 on the raod to Hana (almost in hana) and Maui Tacos in Kihei. The Hana one was terrible, the tortillas were overcooked till they were hard and the pork was boring. Maui Tacos was ok, the steak was a bit tough but the corn tortiilas were good and the salsa bar is excellent. Haiku taco stand had the best filling (pork).

Kula Lodge (Kula on Haleakala Hwy) - Never go here (ok maybe the breakfast might be ok). Even the water tasted bad. The food was overcooked. The waitress was clueless (described a dessert and when it was brought to us it was different). Dessert came with hersheys syrup and cool whip garnish. Things in general were pretty bland.
