I'm craving Maui Style Shrimp Chips (Frito Lay), which I had on a recent trip to Hawaii... Anybody know if they're sold here in the Bay Area??? East Bay and Peninsula sitings preferred but just may make a special trip...
Thanks in advance!
Dandy Brand (I think they are East Bay Based) Shrimp Chips look the same as Maui Style Shrimp Chips. Sort of a foamy (styrofoam) or airy texture.
I am able to find them in many places, especially Japanese food stores.
Peninsula:Takahashi Market in San Mateo sells them.
Ah, yes, Dandy brand shrimp chips are yummy (but seems to have lost the strong shrimpy taste of the past) but I am looking specifically for Frito-Lay's Maui Style Shrimp Chips. They have a distinct taste that's different from those that are normally sold out here.
Try Marina market in Foster City. I believe they have Dandy and some other Asian brand shrimp chips. The Asian brand has more shrimp flavor than the Dandy.
This is such a random thread bump. But I have found the real deal Maui Chips at Manila Oriental Market in SF twice. It's been a couple years, but I shop there at least weekly, and I always check. I will update if they appear again. I am similarly obsessed with them. When I get off the plane on the Big Island and head toward Waimea I stop and get Maui Chips and Spam musubi for the drive.
My college roommate buys them at Sams Club in cali
I'm not familiar with Frito Lay's version, but you could also look at the varieties offered in the Daiso stores. I've shopped in their El Cerritto, Emeryville, and Alameda stores. There may be a branch convenient to you.
