Via Matta report

Sal Monella | Dec 5, 200512:15 PM

After many false starts (changing plans all the time), we finally made it to Via Matta for dinner. BTW, tough time getting reservations now...especially for a Saturday night. Overall, the place met expectations. Thought the total tab was a little high given the martini I had cost $12.50! Ordered a bottle of Olena Chianti. Good wine but didn't think it was worth $44. Wife had crispy eggplant app. Very good. I had the Antipasti Toscano...average. Stay away from the chicken liver pate. Entrees were the very good. Veal for my wife and I had the pork chop. Well executed with just the right amount of seasoning. Dessert surpassed expectation...tiramisu. We split that but I would have had the whole thing without a problem. My wife had a moscato and I have a very bland cappucino. All in all we recommend it but the pricing is prohibitive for folks on a budget.

I had trouble getting over the "Euro"-ish pretensions though. Seemed a little too trendy...
