Matsusho Shop Visit - Millbrae

I was not real familiar with Matsusho or the Muji shops in Japan or London, but found the post (linked below) interesting. So I brought a Japanese friend to Matsusho today who is very familiar with the Muji shops in Japan. Basically, although there may be some relationship, this is apparently not a real Muji shop, according to her. Quality is more along the lines of Ichiban Kan (a sort of dollar store, or 100 yen store located in SF's Japantown and on Third Avenue in San Mateo)--in other words kind of junky and not of any real interest. They sell notebooks, doormats, glassware, some kitchen supplies, etc. but I sure wasn't bowled over. Wonder if this is some kind of Hong Kong version of Muji/Matsusho and by calling it Japan Lifestyle Center it is somehow exotic-sounding to HK expats? Anyway, this is all conjecture, but I sure wouldn't go out of my way to visit here. A trip to IKEA is much more interesting or Maido (Santana Row Japanese stationery store) or a number of shops in SF's Japantown (eg - Kinokuniya Stationery Store or Sanko for kitchen supplies, cookware, and dishes). Would love to hear others' impressions of this shop, especially those who are familiar with the European Muji. My Japanese friend and I were puzzled that it hadn't been advertised in the local Japanese press, but we now see that it is probably not geared toward Japanese customers... However, they *do* play J-pop videos in the stores, which gives somewhat of an ambiance, but you certainly won't feel like you're in Tokyo. :-)
