Planning trip to Japan for late fall this year which (as of now) will include Tokyo, Kyoto, and a hotel on the Ise Shima peninsula. The train route will take us close to Matsusaka. For anyone who has been to this city: Is Matsusaka a pleasant place to wander around and, more important, have you been to Wadakin? Any other meat "temple"? I'd love to sample sukiyaki and to try the famous beef in other preparations as well.
What's been your experience? Assuming we have the time, would this be an interesting stopover for one night? Any recommended hotels (none caught my eye in a brief look)? I realize that we can sample the Matsusaka beef in large cities but since this city is on our route, I thought it would make an interesting one-night break.
Having recently been to Bodega El Capricho near Leon, I'd love to compare, despite the fact that I am nowhere near steak-maven-status and in fact, am quite the novice!
