I recently had one of the best meals of my life at Matsuhisha. I have been hearing for years about Chef Nobu's flagship restaurant and I have been to Nobu in Malibu but this meal eclipsed all prior experiences. I avoided this place in part because I have just recently become capable of appreciating good sushi and also because of what it does to your wallet. However, with all of that said, it was WELL WORTH IT!
While every course was excellent, these were the Top Items:
1. Toro: I have never had anything like it. It melted like butter. After I had the first bite, I almost fought my brother for the rest. Itwas in a brown sauce that only added to the flavor. UNBELIEVABLE. Not offered at any of his other restaurants.
2. King Crab Tempura: Prior to having this dish, I would have considered it a sin to fry crab. However, after having this dish, I will never question the genius of Matsuhisha.
3. There was a raw steak dish- OUTSTANDING
4. The yellow tail and albacore in the ponzu sauce was Stunning!
Can't say enough about this meal. The only thing to avoid would be the fried rock shrimp but they served it with the dynamite sauce that made everything better.
My wallet can't afford many nights like that but my pallet will never be able to go back....
