Mateo's Mexican popsicles and Calypsoul Jamaican market on Pico.

Hershey Bomar | May 8, 200411:59 PM

My girlfriend and I were sampling paletas, Mexican popsicles, at Mateo's today. Paletas are made with real fruit, they’re very tasty and only cost a buck.
We had tamarind, sour sop, tunas, strawberry with chocolate, and coconut with milk and one with water. I’m embarrassed to say that like children we like the coconut the best.
Mateo’s also has lots of exotic ice creams, we had leche quemada, smoked milk.

Next door was a closed Jamaican place, Calypsoul Foods & Empanadas, more like a market than a eatery. It looks like a dump and the corner is very sketchy but…has anyone been?
