so matador opened in west seattle yesterday and predictably, there were lots of dudes in shiny shirts and gals in 7 jeans. there were also about 25 servers standing around. but that's s'ok, i mean the joint is brand new and they were testing everything out, i'm sure. so anyway, upon entering we were greeted with good news on three fronts:
1. no kids! wooooooo! yippie!!!!!!!
2. smoking is OK -- at least at the bar. dunno about the rest of the joint.
3. it was happy hour! ($4 apps and cheap drinkies).
First up was the fire roasted shrimp, which are caled the habenero shrimp on the dinner menu, i believe. These were OK. Sauce could have used a bit more reduction/concentration, but the flavor was nice and spicy. Shrimp themselves were very average shrimp.
Next up came the nachos. A HUGE platter for $4, but pretty generic.
Finally, somebody ordered the shrimp tacos. Decent shrimpy flavor but why lord, why would a "tex-mex" joint use flour tortillas for tacos? Maybe it's me, but that's just dumb.
Anyway, I'm gonna withhold my stomp of approval rating uuntil i explore the menu a bit more. until then hounds, i remain....
