Masa or Another Southwestern-type Restaurant??

Question

Would welcome any suggestions. Am thinking about going to Masa for a special dinner. Have never been there, but have heard rave reviews. I definitely want a restaurant with a strong Southwestern flair -- NOT Mexican. Think fine Sante Fe dining. If not Masa, then where? Location is not an issue. Thanks!

I have only been to Masa once, which was more than enough. I was excited to go because I really enjoy southwestern food and it was recommended by a friend. Unfortunately it was disappointing, and I haven't returned since.

I haven't been to any of them (well, Cactus Club for dinner 6 years ago, but that shouldn't count), but the Cactus Club, the Cottonwood Cafe, Rudy's Cafe and the new Prairie Star Southwestern Grill & Bar all bill themselves as Southwestern, Tex-Mex, or somewhere in between. All of these places can be found on boston.citysearch.com but I do not put much stock in their reviews.
 
Cactus Club & the Cottonwood get mixed reviews here, generally not all that favorable. The new place is run by the former owners of Baja, which did not receive the best reviews.
 
So basically what I'm saying is Boston doesn't have much to offer for Southwestern food for special occasions.

Masa is outstanding. I have eaten there more than 20 times. It is always above average. Recommended: lobster tamales, scallop and duck appetizer and the halibut. And you may as well have a margarita too because they are nonpareil. I hope the dissenting reviewer would try it again. I have frequented the restaurant so many times because the chef is a friend of a friend of a friend; but I am nonetheless impartial.
