Masa RW Extension: Fantastic waste of money and time

I don't really even feel like wasting the time to write this up, but maybe I can save someone else.

The first sign of trouble was that despite making a reservation and asking about the RW extension, we weren't given or offered prix fixe menus for dinner... when the waiter arrived, we asked, and they were presented... (Masa is extending the RW offer for dinner only, not lunch)

and there our troubles began

second sign of trouble, the printed offerings weren't the same as those on their website... 2 apps offered rather than three (no corn chowder), no choices for dessert at all...

Romaine salad with cojita cheese, which I understand is a a crumbly cheese like feta, had no crumbly cheese... it was a caesar, a salty caesar, sort of, with thin strips of blue corn tortilla.

Mahi Mahi entree with yucca fries was good, as in adequate... but like my steak frites, was a real celebration of salt, salt, and more salt. the beef was an unimpressive cut. Cooked exactly medium as ordered, but otherwise... if the sauce hadn't been so thick I'd have had a chance to actually see the fat so i could trim it. Accompanying watercress salad on both plates also celebrated the wonder of salt. How can a SALAD be too salty?

The dessert thing, and I don't even know how to describe it, was the dessert equivalent of tater tots, in texture and fried greasiness... no choices here. Had my hopes up for "southwestern style tiramisu" or "chocolate truffle tamale w/ raspberry sauce" or even "warm rice pudding with goat cheese and caramel sauce" but these options magically disappeared in that vague space between the Internet and the Restaurant.

No delights here. None. Even the wine (the only by the glass cab on the menu, at $7) kinda sucked.

Host wasn't overly apologetic for the ear-piercing 10-minute fire alarm seranade during the entrees... yeah it's not their fault, but then again, not mine either yet I was paying to be there. I DO expect a little consideration for that sort of thing, and I DO absolutely give it to others when I'm in charge and can.

All things considered, I guess they weren't happy that we ordered the RW meals and did their best to make that known. That's all I can come up with. Oh, and tonight was total waste of money. I feel a little bit self-righteous because I cooked a 4-course meal for a friend yesterday, it was pretty damn good, and nobody was PAYING me to cook it...

Sorry folks, but we won't be back. The weekend brunch offerings at $10 and up look promising, but I can get a $10 burrito at lots of places... and they'll hold the salt.
