Mary's off Jane - new bakery

Cloudy | Aug 23, 2002 12:32 AM

This place has been open for a few months, but I only just noticed it last week. I've since checked out a few of their things, and it's all good so far. Had a very smooth and chocolatey chocolate flan, a nice cheese biscuit (for breakfast), some very tart minty mojito limeade, and a slightly cloying passionfruit lemonade. They have a lot more cakes & pies which I intend to work my way through. Everything looks terrific; many things have a tropical flavor (the owner is originally from Cuba, I think).

The atmosphere is nice & relaxed, and there's an enormous picture window with good people-watching on Eighth Ave. There are a few tables & chairs, so you can either eat there or take out. And the hours are very generous; they're open every day from morning to fairly late at night.
