Mary's Fish Camp: Only Half Great

Finally managed to snag a seat at the counter last night. Two of us shared the salt shrimp, steamers, fried clams, and lobster roll. Steamers may have been the best I've ever had--large, clean, not the least gritty, and fresh, fresh, fresh. Loved the salt shrimp, crispy shells and all. Again, very fresh, perfectly seasoned.

I was surprised to be disappointed in the lobster roll. Nice large chunks of lobster and not drowned in mayo, but way too lemony. The flavor of the lobster just didn't come through. Buns, too, were overwhelmed by lemon sauce. Couldn't taste much of anything else. Maybe this was an off night, but for $25 I expected an epiphany that never came. And after having read raves here about the fried clams, I was disappointed in them as well. Clams may have been whole, but hard to tell. More crust than clam. Not the light touch I expected and hoped for.

An earlier poster mentioned juice glasses of wine implying too little was poured for the price. Last night our juice glass was filled to the top--definitely more than one usually gets in a standard-sized wine glass.
