Maruichi in Milpitas

Cary | Aug 29, 200502:22 PM

I forgt they opened another location in Milpitas in the Ranch99 plaza. Seems pretty smart: busy location, and no real ramen places nearby (except tokyo ramen nearby)

Anywayws, I was there on accident Sunday morning and decided to linger around for their opening at 11:30am. I got the kuro ramen special with the 10oz Kirin lunch beer (only $1.75 vs the 12oz $3.50 at dinner). My companion got the cold noodle summer special.

The kuro ramen special is their Kuro ramen with a piece of kakuni (tender stewed pork) and peppered cod roe (I think) and their standard toppings. I was impressed by their kakuni, sweet and tender. Their chasu was also tender, although seems a bit thin and wimpy compared to other places. Their stock was rich and flavorful. Noodles were springy, and retained most of their texture to the end, but I would have preferred even "harder" noodles.

The summer special had a thicker looking noodle with two egg toppings, chashu, and cucumber toppings. You pour this oily, salty, vinegary (kind of) sauce over it . I liked this noodle as it was "harder".

Overall I liked this place a lot and would go back.

The plaza "next" to the ranch 99 plaza has this place called "Tokyo Ramen." Melanie reviewed this place earlier: [BROKEN LINK REMOVED]
