Leisurely garden lunch at Martini House on beautiful Sunday. Garden is the place to eat, shaded by trees and full of flowers, pond, rustic and homey. Interior too dark for lunch, better suited for dinner crowds. Chef Todd Humphries is all about mushrooms, likes to do his own foraging---so do not miss any mushroom items on the menu. I had TWO bowls of his amazing Mushroom Soup, frothy with just the right amount of richness and intense flavor. Just delicious, best I have ever eaten, and I consider myself a Mushroom Soup devotee. Beet and Goat Cheese Salad had lots of flavorful small beets. Goat cheese covered in very light coating of panko breadcrumbs and heated. Great with some slices of baquette, or warm crusty rolls preferred, settled for their chewy french rolls replaced by server one by one. Rabbit risotto didn't work---way too many green chilis overcame preparation, despite fresh corn. Thing to order is the Kobe Beef Burger which is an over-the-top burger all juicy and served with paper boat of home made chips---very memorable will be hard to go back to regular burgers again. Service was warm and efficient. Skipped dessert---stopped at Dean and DeLuca for a scrumptious large fudge brownie with walnuts (and a couple of our favorite Sweetie Pie iced pumpkin cookies for the road). DandD so quiet, bakery counter was giving away samples of baked goods!!
