A piece of L.A. restaurant history vanished this past Saturday night when Marquis West closed its doors. The owners and staff were teary-eyed and they gave away menus, signed by the chef if requested. When we left at 9:30 the drinks were free from the bar. As a joke the bartender, Sal, gave me an autographed bottle of Two Buck Chuck. I offer no comments on the food but the restaurant, first as The Marquis and later after its move as Marquis West, was a contemporary of Chasen's, Perino's, Romanoff's et. al. and now has joined them. IMHO a shame in a town where a place that's been open for even 10 years is considered "old."
