marquet & adoré: good food on the go

Marquet (12th, b/w 5th & univ, opp gotham), bakery- patisserie-cafe offers wide range of big sandwiches on decent bread (i prefer the made to order over the ready made). Ham, smoked salmon. Also delicious little round breads with tom and anchovies. Sat down a couple of times, quite noisy at busy times and service is hit and miss, a little distant. Have taken out around eight times, and quality is consistent. Tarts have been good in past for dinner parties tho not up to Todaro’s standard.

The adoré (13th b/w 5th and univ, I think Jim mentioned it a few months back, can't find post) is a tiny café with an upstairs sitting area that’s usually full. The staff is delightful, hyper-friendly. I’ve had take out around six times. They use Top Cat (?) bakery bread, not my fave bread, but works well in sandwiches. I rec the egg & tom, and the other I like is bacon and mozzarella. Funkier place than marquet.

Price=$6-$8 for large sandwich.
