Maroli and humble pie

blair | Feb 19, 2005 08:42 AM

I am eating humble pie today. Mmmmmm.

A few weeks ago, Dave posted (many times) about how good this little hidden gem was. I, for one, suspected that he was hyping his own place. Eventually, my curiosity got the better of me and, since it's near my home (22 Balliol St., Unit #109, just east of Yonge--very hard to see, but just behind the Kitchen Table store), I finally gave it a try.

It's a little, family-run spot, take-out only. The first person I saw was the owner's 2-3 year old son, behind the counter. Very cute. Then the woman came out to take my order. I love Indian food, but don't eat out too often. I ordered spicy chicken biriyani ($6.50)with a Malabar roti ($1.00) (just the flat bread, not filled). The biriyani came with raita and sour pickle. It was delicious. I'll be back for more. I have a menu at home.
The chef told me that he trained at chef's school in India.
Thanks for the tip, Dave.
