For years I've only tried Marlowe's BBQ pork plates and BBQ nachos and found them to be very tasty. I was embarrassed last winter when I was taped for Turner South's Blue Ribbon show and all they asked me about was the BBQ ribs -- not the plates or nachos. And I struggled thru the interview.
Well, Saturday night I finally tried Marlowe's BBQ ribs -- with dry rub -- and I can truthfully say, I have never tasted finer BBQ ribs (dry rub) than what I had there. The meat falls off the ribs before melting in your mouth!
Saturday was the end of our internationally-famous Memphis in May BBQ contest and Marlowe's brought home a 4th place tropy this year (2nd place last year) ... and I was joking with them about their "failure," but they quickly reminded me there were 450 teams from around the world competing and to come in 4th place was an honor, indeed.
(Like in college basketball. 300 teams compete, only 4 make the Final Four, only one wins, and everyone calls #2 the "loser.")
Marlowe's at 4381 Elvis Presley Blvd., one mile south of Graceland's gates, has long been a favorite of Elvis fans the world over. Their salads -- I warn everyone -- are not only tasty, but are large enough to fill 2 Chowhounds any day of the week. And their burger list -- highlighted by the ONLY "Elvis Burger" in town -- will match anyone's.
But now I can add -- "ah, the ribs !! "
