Marietta, GA - country/southern

Milt | Oct 2, 200310:05 PM

Tonight we checked out Green Tomato Buffet, which had been recommended to my wife. It is on Powers Ferry Road between Delk Road and Terrill Mill Road - in the same shopping center as Micro Center. They are open 11am-9pm Monday-Saturday and 11am-3pm on Sunday. The restaurant has been open for about a month and is operated by Soon and Sam Kim. The food is very good and it runs $5.70 - with tea or coffee an additional $.99 - for all you can eat.

Frequently visitors from out of town want to know where they can get good southern cooking. This is the place. Clean, friendly and tasty. The menu changes daily, with some items being on the menu every day. Rotating meats are beef tips and rice, fried chicken livers, turkey (chicken) & dressing, meat loaf, fried or baked fish, and pork chops. Every day lists fried chicken, baked chicken, and country fried (salisbury) steak. Vegetables include fried green tomatoes, fried okra, butter beans, green beans, collard greens, corn, yams, cabbage, rice, rutabagas, black eyed peas, and broccoli with cheese. The salad bar is also quite good. The menu doesn't specify what desserts are offered, but tonight we had peach cobbler, red velvet cake, banana pudding and something else.

This is not light dining, but the food is quite good and very reasonably priced. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. Their phone is 770/618-8451.
