There is a 'new' kid on the block, serving some mind-expanding Middle Eastern food, and this I think is a destination restaurant. Marib is the new darling, Yemeni food, this time served in a nice ambience. We had four dishes, and I imagine that most of the food here is handled with great skill.
The star is the foul, and it comes well pureed in a boiling cauldron. I haven't had it quite like this before, and the aroma and use of spices make it a must order. I could not believe how good this was.
Next up is a superior version of haneeth, and the lamb here was luxurious and fork tender with a couple of chops thrown in for good measure over crispy onions and rice. I've had this dish at three other places now, and this version flies high above the others.
Also, they serve the breakfast items here all day, so there is a lot to choose from. The qalaba (not sure of spelling on this menu) comes out as a sizzling, smoking platter of well fried lamb tidbits with onion, peppers, and some jalapeño. Yes, this is breakfast. The same dish is called megalgal at House of Mandi.
The only dish that did not impress was the hummus. Wonderfully creamy, a good thing, but in this case bland as well. The karak tea is sensational. Get that as your dessert. As good as the foul. Really.
