Maria's and the no sell

B71 | May 30, 2006 02:28 AM

Had to look back over the recent Maria's threads to see if my experience had been duplicated, but apparently it was just the opposite.

Memorial Day Monday, 8:15pm, my girlfriend, her father and I sat in the back room where we ordered guac, some tacos, ceviche, and a 1/2 chicken. the guac arrived promptly but we received nothing else, including a second beer, until 10pm. with no visits or explanations from the 3 different people who came to us during the ordering process. the table next to us had the same problem: they ordered an entree, was told the kitchen was out of an ingredient, and then were handed a menu and ignored for a very long time. they were lucky: they paid for their drinks and left.

the place was 3/4 full when we arrived, but the majority of the tables had food when we ordered. what we also noticed was that the wait staff was standing around or seating the occasional new customer, while a harried single server brought the food to each table.

My girlfriend and I have been there several times over recent years, and we like the place, so we thought that the bigger dining room was the issue, but apparently it's been open for more than 1 month per previous threads. with that in mind, i find that kind of negligence inexcusable.

we certainly understand having to wait when a restaurant is busy, but this was cafe fuerte incompetance, for anyone who remembers serving a prison sentence as a customer there. and if you're going to make me sit for nearly two hours for some tacos, at least have the courtesy to apologize. when we sat down, my first thought was "wow, it's so great to eat here without claustrophobia." now, i seriously doubt we'll be back in 2006.
