It seems this restaurant has been around since some time in 2010 and I was totally oblivious all this time. My husband and I tried the food here on a Thursday night and were so happy we did! Unfortunately, that night they did not have the goat curry which is what we originally made the drive for, however, we were told they just recently found a local source for goat meat and it would be back on the menu very soon.
We started with the appetizer sampler, which features fried plantains, spicy potato balls, meat and vegie samosa and a cucumber mint dipping sauce. All delicious! Since no goat curry, we opted for two different chicken dishes - boneless chicken chunks cooked in a spiced yogurt sauce and a boneless chicken breast with a spinach sauce. Both so different and so tasty.
The restaurant has a full bar, some South African wines and several beer options as well. We were too stuffed for dessert, so skipped that and took home our dinner leftovers.
We plan to head back very soon and hopefully order the goat curry; another couple sitting near us were commenting on how delicious their food was and that the lamb curry was very tender, so we'll have to try that as well on a return trip.
Note: Mariam's is closed Sunday and Wednesday; open for dinner all other days and open for lunch on Friday and Saturday (according to their website).
