Bonjours, messieurs mesdames! I'm from/in Boston (et je visite Montreal en avril, et je lis ce forum pour idees, merci!) with another visit planned to the greatest city in North America. I've studied this board prior to other trips, and you folks have provided excellent reviews with top-notch suggestions.
On your advice, I've dined at Brunoise, O'Thyme, Les Heritiers, Pied de Cochon. (On my own, I've stumbled upon L'Express and Cocagne.)
I have anglo and quebecois friends in M'real, but they're not gourmandes. (One anglo has lived near Marche Atwater for almost 6 years, with nary a visit! ??!!) Last week, I emailed a friend whose father is French (not Cdn) - he lives on the Plateau, so I suggested "Les Heritiers."
Just now, he emailed a reply: "on pourrait aller manger au Margo sur Avenu du Parc. resto francais bien correct, belle carte des vins aussi."
I looked on Chowhound Qc: no mention of "Margo." Bad sign??
Travelers' rule-of-thumb is to TRUST LOCALS, but my time in Montreal is too short to waste a meal, folks! I'm inclined to overrule that suggestion, since I'm assertive & paying, if it doesn't get several strong recommendations here. Alternatives in the nabe are appreciated; I'll keep it 'French' (although I'll eat any cuisine) but I don't drink (fwiw - deep wine lists not important).
Ideas or opinions? Thanks!
