My brother and I were in NOLA two weeks ago just for one evening -- ate at Deanie's in Bucktown out by the lake -- one hour wait on Friday night, jam packed as always but the food was good Bucktown-style seafood like always. No crawfish but lots of oysters, shrimp and fish.
Afterwards drinks at Mimi's in -- well, he says Bywater but it seemed like Marigny to me. The power was out -- they have been having power but had a blackout -- power out for what seemed like miles, everything "back of the Quarter" was pitch black. Full moon on Friday the 13th and no power in New Orleans was spooky but the ambience inside was nice and they had ice so my martini was cold.
Everything we looked at from St. Charles to the river looked pretty intact to me, but of course it's all a matter of elevation.
We're going back for Mardi Gras. Made the reservations, now we need to make plans. Tickets are still cheap but hotel rooms filling up fast. We want to spend money and boost the economy!
Tom Fitzmorris' list is a treasure - as is Tom himself, of course.
