Last night after attending a rousing Indians-Pirates game at the Cleveland stadium (we won),our group decided we hadn't had enough of ballpark chow so we made a late night stop at the Mardi Gras Lounge on 21st, near the end of Chinatown. I can't believe we don't hit here more often. They serve food until 4 a.m. and there is always great live blues or jazz, although I'm not quite sure if this is nightly for either. The crowd is really eclectic. For example last night there was a group of bikers(as in Harley), dancers (as NOT in the Cleveland Ballet), some folks dressed to the nines, and, well, us. You never know who or what will appear, especially in the wee hours. The menu features plenty of dinerish-Greek items, some Cajun and after midnight breakfast is also available.Eclectic like the crowd. I went for the octopus platter (9.95,large and considered an appetizer), which had plenty of tender, braised octopus in some sauce(very dark in there, couldn't really see what), that tasted like garlic, lemon, herbs some tomato and maybe wine. Delicious. Accompanied by large chunks of moist, salty Feta, Kalamata olives, cukes and tomatoes. The others in our party that were hungry had huge omelets that looked wonderful served with big crusty chunks of potato, and another had a gyros platter. Everyone was quite happy. I guess they do a bang-up lunch biz as well. I gotta get back there soon. It's truly one of those rare places that has real soul.
