all the entrees were standouts - monkfish, guinea hen and lamb - and very pricey for SF, let alone Peninsula (low $30s). Starters were solid but not as special (baked oysters, fennel and apple salad and caesar salad) and the mushroom soup amuse was fantastic. seems like the sort of place where you would expect the caeasar to be prepared tableside but there is no room for that in the tightly paced space. seasonings on the starters seemed off, especially compared to the perfection of the entrees.
open kitchen (via windows, not open air) provides a bit of a 'peep show' but you can't really see much.
i'd request a booth next time, if possible.
wine list is very interesting, extensive and expensive. markups on many bottles approach 3 times retail. you can only partially get around this buy bringing in a bottle. corkage policy is $25 per bottle, 2 bottle limit but corkage is waived for every bottle purchased.
i definitely would go back for another special event if the dining location is peninsula.
