I just tried Marcella Hazan's recipe for garlic scented tomato salad, and I have to recommend it to everyone here. All you do is throw about 4-5 crushed garlic cloves into about 2 tablespoons of red wine vinegar, plus a tsp of salt, let it marinate for at least 20 minutes. In the meantime, peel about two pounds of plum tomatoes and cut them into slices. Strain out the garlic from the vinegar and pour the vinegar onto the tomatoes, add olive oil to taste, add shredded basil leaves, toss and you're done!
Start with the best tomatoes (shouldn't be a problem this time of year) and I guarantee it will be the BEST tomato salad you have ever had.
