A few weeks ago while digging through the bargain bin at my favorite Chicago wine store I was surprised to find a bottle of marc from Domaine de la Romanee-Conti. I know what marc is and Im aware of the reputation of DRC but am completely unfamiliar with this particular product. Most of the books I consulted were of little help. Id like to find out a little more before I pull the cork on this one.
Its in a light green Burgundy bottle with heavy yellow sealing wax. The neck label says 1979 and the main label reads, Societe Civile du Domaine de la Romanee-Conti / Propretaire a Vosne-Romanee (Cote dOr) France / Fine Bourgogne Brandy / Appelation Reglementee par Decret / Mis en bouteille au domaine le 30 Octobre 1992.
Any background on this would be welcome. Is there information in Richard Olneys Romanee-Conti? If anyone knows what this bottle would ordinarily sell for Id be curious to find out. By the way, I paid $9.99 for it (and, no, there are no more bottles available!). Thanks.
