today, i went to Food Factory near the Ballston metro stop in Arlington, va. its a really good cheap eats/kabob place (dishes $5 - $6). i had been once before and really enjoyed a chicken kabob with nan.
today, i was craving the same. but this time, perhaps because i was solo, i was more attentive to the menu posted on the wall and noticed that the place had specials. i am a sucker for specials and so found myself in a quandary. i know that weekly specials at a cheap eats place is far different than say a Little Fountain Cafe which just received some venison...and i have been told that its mere marketing like value meals at fast food, but still theres something..um,special...about specials. i refuse to believe its just marketing (really, how could a kabob place with a name like Food Factory and no sign on the front be marketing savvy?).
anyway, so i stared at the menu for a while struggling with my decision. i didnt really have a hankering for lamb curry, but it was the wednesday special and besides, i had chicken last night.
so, i finally ordered "the wednesday special - lamb curry." the woman looked at me like i was a bit of a moron. i supposed it was because i had stared at the menu - which, really contained fewer than 10 items - for an inordinate amount of time.
the lamb curry was delicious. the lamb was tender. the curry had just the right amount of heat for me - enough to just slightly numb the mouth, but not enough to distract from the taste - and coupled with the cold, thin yogurt mint sauce it was divine. and the nan was simply the best nan i've had in a while. more puff than say, nan and beyond, and not so chewy.
so it was delicious and i would have been glad that i ordered the wednesday special if only today wasn't THURSDAY! - a fact i realized on my way back to the office. perhaps this is why i got the funny look when i placed my order. now i have to go back next thursday to find out what the thursday special is. i only hope the lady who took my order doesnt recognize me.
