We celebrated our weeknight anniversary at Maple Drive last night (more proper celebration in Santa Barbara this weekend), and we were impressed. A bit noisier and crowded than we expected, but the live jazz was quite pleasant. New chef, kept a few of the oldies, but some interesting new stuff. I had cured spanish mackerel for appetizer. Tasted great, like an enhanced mackeral sushi, but the texture wasn't on par with the taste. And roast duck with yam puree and a foie gras "spring roll" for entree. This was good, especially the interesting, well-conceived spring roll. My wife had the "oldie" chili and rack of lamb. The lamb was high quality and well-cooked.
Best part, I think, was that given the quality of the food and atmosphere, the price was quite reasonable. About $160 for food, bottle of wine, desert and tea for her. I was stunned that we didn't spend $200. I think this restaurant is in good shape.
