I liked Mantra

Alexis | Sep 9, 2002 01:58 PM

I went to Mantra on Saturday night. I was visiting my parents for the weekend and my father said "We can go anywhere you want to go." I said "Grille 23." And he said "How about Mantra?" My dad is slightly trendier than I apparently.

All in all, it was a great experience. The room is, needless to say, beautiful. We were seated immediately for our 8:00pm reso. When we sat down, the waiter (actually he was the guy between waiter and bus boy) overheard me saying how hungry I was and ran over with the bread lady and the delicious naan and cilantro spread. Good start. The sommelier picked out a wonderful pinot gris for us and our waiter was great throughout. Service was flawless.

As for the food... wow. It is hard to screw up foie gras, but it was accompanied by chanterelles which were great. My mother had the peekey-toe crab salad and my father had the shrimp app and both were great (mine won though). All of the entree's were delicious too: I had tandoori-esque chicken with quinoa, father had halibut and mother had lamb (mom's won). Everything was excellent.

Also, I like the voyeuristic bathrooms. It's sort of like being a fly on the wall... too bad I only got to watch my mother reapplying lipstick. Boring.
