We went to Manon Saturday night for dinner. Overall I give it a very good to excellent. The restaurant is small, but I think quite lovely inside. Being small though, tables are close together. If that bothers you, might not be the place to go.
We were seated right away. Rolls were brought to the table with a nice olive oil and a bowl of olives. I asked for butter as sometimes prefer that. Glad I asked as I believe it was a french butter, had that tangy taste which I love.
For appetizers husband ordered the salad with poached pears, walnuts, blue cheese and a red wine vinaigrette. It was very tasty, a nice portion and not overly dressed. I had the mushroom soup special. It arrived piping hot, really hot which you don’t always find at restaurants. And being it was a freezing cold weekend, I really appreciated. Soup was chock full of mushroom flavor and did not have a ton of cream in it. I loved it!
For entrees Joe had the special of sirloin in an au poivre sauce, which was more of a red wine than a cream sauce. The steak was perfectly cooked and the sauce had a nice peppery bite to it. Came with potato gratin, I LOVE their gratin, and carrots and string beans. Which by the way, were cooked completely. They were not mushy but not hard, just the other side of raw.
I had the short ribs. I never order short ribs as usually are too fatty for me. This was the only downside of the meal. They gave me two short ribs. There was a lot of bone, and the meat was not fall of the bone tender. It was tough and chewy and quite fatty. They really needed to braise a couple more hours. Flavor was good, but just not enough edible meat, for me at least. To give the restaurant credit they did ask if there was anything wrong, did I need something else. I am not a complainer and said it was fine. Came with mashed and the above veggies.
For dessert Joe had the bread pudding. It was good, not spectacular. I had the pear tartin and instead of vanilla ice cream got the special goat cheese and fig ice cream. The ice cream lent a nice tang that paired well with the pear tartin. It was delicious.
All in all it was a very enjoyable experience. I didn’t care for my short ribs but that would not stop me from going back again.
