Looking For Manhattan's Best of Everything

Hoc | Apr 19, 2003 02:44 AM

I'm going to be in Manhattan for 1 week in May, and have not been there for about 18 years. I'm interested in experiencing the best food Manhattan has to offer. My preferences are that I care not one whit about the atmosphere. Nor do I care about price. What I am looking for is just the best food.

Yes, a true chowhound here, not a foodie.

Last time I was there, I loved the corned beef at Carnegie Deli, so I expect to go back there. I've also heard good things about Lotus and B. Frites, so those are possibilities.

I know that bagels are good and plentiful, but if there is a particularly good place, I'd like to know. My room will have a kitchen, so take-home food is also an option.

I also heard that I should try the French Crullers at Michell London foods, but given its absence in the phone book, I suspect it has closed down, so I will be limited to doughnuts from the Doughnut Plant.

But I have a relatively open schedule, so I'm hoping to get suggestions from you all as to places to eat. Any recommendations?
