Just back from an enjoyable, if cold weekend in New York. Here is a brief report on what we enjoyed:
Sat Lunch - Prime Burger - My expectations were high here as the Wash Post food critic as well as this board had good things to say. 60s decor and cool booths aside, I was dissapointed in my burger - it didn't really taste of anything, fries were decent though
Sat Dinner - Zarela - best meal of the weekend. Good salsa, average chips. Great plantains in mole sauce, fantastic fried cauliflower with a picante sauce. I had pork shoulder wrapped in banana leaf, wife had a shrimp dish and friend had a chicken dish. Nice, attentive staff....
Sun lunch - hole in the wall place in Chinatown, more of a light snack while our 2 year old chowed down on rice and chicken. Followed up with some seriously tasty mango ice cream at the Chinatown ice cream factory
Sun dinner - Utsav - biggest dissapointment - food was fairly good but the service was so bad as to be almost surreal - there were literally about 10 people and about 5 staff in the whole restaurant yet we had to wait to give our order and ask twice for several things - not to mention the mojito fiasco where my wife had to send back a mojito three times before it became apparent they didn't know how to make one
Mon Lunch - Tatany - good reasonably priced lunch - I had sushi, my wife had a bento box - sushi was good and generously cut - the bento box had tempura and chicken teriaki...the tempura was better
Stopped at Two Little Red Hens before we trekked back to DC and picked up some cheesecake (yum) and some mango peach pie which we haven't tasted yet but are looking forward to
Regret we didn't get to Famous Bens or The Ginger Man but theres always next time
