Manhattan Snacks

Boots | Dec 10, 2004 11:22 AM

As a bike messenger, I go everywhere in the city, and I don't ever have time for a real meal during the day. I like to pick up $1-2 dollar items all over town as the hunger starts to gnaw and I know I'm near something worthwhile. Some examples:

The pickle places on the LES, 2 full sours for a buck

Bakeries in Chinatown, Red Bean or Tuna buns for $0.75

Grays Papayas

Mamouns Falafel

Beef patties at Spanish American Food on 13th and 1st

Any other suggestions for hole-in-the-walls, carts, etc, with great, cheap snacks? Particularly curious about unfamiliar neighborhoods to me, like midtown, chelsea, UES & UWS, and the financial district. Thanks!
