Manhattan questions: Milos, late night options

psb | Sep 23, 201702:14 AM

Hi, I'm in town from San Francisco for two weeks, splitting time between Williamsburg, Fire Island and Prospect Hts. Would love feedback/ideas on any of the below:

--I am going to see Die Zauberflote at the Met on Wed and was thinking about either going to KEENS STEAK or MILOS for the "Pre-Theater" Prix-Fixe ... do you think either are walk-in options at 5-530 on a Wed? I will be "solo" for the Opera evening, so can sit at the bar etc.

--I am looking for some good options for Late Night Dessert drop in ... a place to sit at the bar and have maybe one drink and two desserts :-)
Last time I was here OTTO PIZZA fit the bill ... open late, the OLIVE OIL COPPETTA was *incredible* [although the rest of the food wasnt fantastic], had interesting conversation with the bartender about the lady who was the Gelato Queen, https://www.eater.com/2017/5/30/15691...

I had never heard of "coppetta" ... and this isnt something I see in SF.

So unusual desserts would be of particular interest ... as opposed to yet another Chocolate Mousse/Pot de Creme/Creme Brule etc. Although I always have room for PANNA COTTA. Would be interested in a nice CREPE SUZETTE too.

I even enjoyed trying the YUZU ESKIMO at that "basement" dessert place on St. Marks.

--Branching out in South Brookyn?
I have been to and very much like CAFE DUSHANBE/ROKHAT, NARGIS, KASHKAR ... TACI'S BEYTI was ok. Any other Central Asian recs for a group outing ... particularly for kebabs?

--Late night hangout/work spot:
Any recommendations for places open till at least 9pm where I could read and/or work on my computer? i.e. I dont want to be in a ill-lit bar
or somewhere where being on my computer would not fit in. Note: I dont need wifi.
* Friend suggested EPISTROPHE on Mott St.
* CAFE JAX on the UES is ok ... but only open until 9.
* The place across the street from Strand Books seemed kinda soulless. But maybe other options near NYU? Other places on the LES?

--This Sunday, I am seeing AS YOU LIKE IT at CSC at 3 and then UTE LEMPER at JOE PUB at 7. Any snack/lightfood recs in between other than MOMOFUKU SSAM? I'll do anything light ... Viennoiserie, Dumplings, Pizza, "ethnic snack" etc.

-I am interested in trying SORBILLO and TRAPIZZINO. A friend mentioned A. Starita had a new place in New York. Is that DON ANTONIO or something else? I did not love KESTE ... I thought they were kinda phoning it in ... is D.A. better?

Thanks for any ideas ... happy to report back, if I have meaningful feedback.
