Mangarosa DAT

pm | Jan 21, 200607:30 PM

I've eaten at Mangarosa several times and always have an enjoyable meal - with food ranging from good to excellent, and service the same. Last night, without time for a long relaxing meal, we decided to go try the DAT selections. 2 of us - we tried each other's courses:

1st Course
(a) Caesar Salad w/fried anchovies. Tasty, but the anchovies could have killed a cow from high blood pressure. Abundant quantity of the little things, maybe too many, but you could cut them up to taste in the salad.
(b) Creamy tomato/basil soup (non-dairy) - it was delicious.

2d Course
(a) Pao de Queijo (cheese bread). These are tasty little things, many little bunlike breads in a basket - really a good "1st course" for 2.
(b) Cod Cakes. Delicious. I've had them before, I'll have them again.

3d Course
(a) Frango Assado (crispy chicken). It was exceptionally delicious. Served with spinich or potatoes on the side.
(b) Spaghettini w/veal/pork/beef meatballs. The meatballs and sauce were very good. The noodles were fine, but this isn't my favorite shape of noodle.

All in all, worth the $31,95. Sitting at the counter watching the kitchen go adds even more to the meal. The owners watch each plate as it comes out prior to service. Last night's rating: Food - very good. Service - Excellent
