Went to Manducati's in Long Island City last night and was not impressed. I had the lemon sole special and it was nothing great, although two others had bass and loved it. The real problem was the side pasta that two people ordered. The sauce on it was horrible! It was bitter and tinny. My wife took a taste and said it was made with puree, a sure way to have a metallic taste in your sauce. I won't go into what the bitterness reminded me of. Now all four in our party (3 NY Italians & me) have eaten in Manducati's before so we had reasonable expectations. We hope it was just a strange evening, as other events pointed to - such as the waiter forgetting that we ordered coffee after dinner, or one of the waitstaff having words with another over in a corner. Also, the kitchen seemed awfully slow in getting thing out. I'm talking about soups and salads, not entrees.
