Some friends and us checked out a brand new tapas place called Mampou in Newark (yes, even though Philly has a new Tapas place I will travel to "Nork" for something more "authentico").

I have to say we were all pleased and the wine selection contained some perfectly good Spanish wines for $22 (which seems cheap to me because our Philly tapas place sells no wine under $35).

We first got a complimentary bread basket with olive oil for dipping which was really delicious. We all got an order of the Tortilla which was very good although it was slightly unorthodox in that it contained swiss chard. We also had peas with serrano ham which were heavily flavored with saffron and sherry. I couldn't get enough.

We also got mushrooms stuffed with crabmeat, meatballs (for one diner who did not eat seafood), mussels in a picante red sauce and octopus.

We did not order the shrimp because one diner said his cousin thought they were bad (he said that when you tore off the head and peeled it, there was no meat inside). This could have been a one time only problem though. At least they serve them with the head which is a concept alien to Philadelphia.

Anyway, I would love to go back to this place as it was a fun place to hang out and they played really good loungey music.

The only problem we encountered was that the Web page said it opened at 5pm, but they didn't really open until 6pm...and since I had to catch a train back to Philly no later than 9:30 I was afraid we would not have enough time. (So we had to drink sangria around the corner for an hour....we can handle that).
