i am new to seattle and was craving italian food. i saw that mama melina won the best italian on a seattle city guide so my friend and i decided to check it out. boy, i wish i had found this site first. we were greeted by a host who was wearing ratty jeans, a tshirt & motorcyle boots. the lack of professionalism should've been a cue to run out of the place. the food consisted of standard italian fare- the chicken marsala was fine but the pastas were overcooked and lacked flavor. i don't mind vinyl tablecloths if the food is good but the food was mediocre at best. huge mark up on the wine list--we were there on 1/2 price wine night and noticed they listed northstar merlot at half price at $55 ($102 regular price). Other fine dining restaurants charge the half price amount as their everyday price. service was ok. the live music could be interpreted as entertaining or cheesey depending on the company or your mood. i wouldn't recommend this place and was left wondering how on earth this could be voted the best italian in seattle.
