Mama Fu's Clearwater

I had such hopes for this place, especially as it is convenient to me in the Clearwater Mall on Gulf to Bay Blvd. Yes, a chain, but I thought it might be acceptable inexpensive Asian chow in an area that sure could use some. Planned to dine in but the place was swamped, so opted for take out. Ordered and waited and waited and waited. Time stamped receipt showed well over half an hour by the time the Pot Stickers, Red Thai Curry and Vietnamese Noodles were ready. The manager took no interest in our query regarding the excessive wait for take out. I don't know when I've tasted blander, more banal, less flavorful Asian fare. The potstickers were clearly heated in some fashion that did not involve oil in a pan of any kind and had no ginger snap to them at all. The red curry had not a hint of heat, and I mean NONE although marked "hot" on the menu, and a most peculiar wet straw flavor to the sauce. Although the vegetables were reasonably crisp, the chicken tasted overcooked. The Vietnamese noodles dish was the best of the lot, beef and vegetables and fairly strong garlic flavor, but no better than what is available at any strip mall chain take out Chinese joint. Even the white rice tasted off! For well less than the eighteen dollars this sorry excuse for a lunch cost, I could have had excellent Thai, spring roll, soup, fritter, and two full entrees at Bahn Thai and walked away delighted.
