MaMa Duke

We finally got some food from Mama Duke, the Soul food take-out on Flatbush & Bergen supposedly owned by Sean Comb's (Puff Daddy, P. Diddley's) mother. The place was spotless. The service very friendly. We ordered a ribs and a chopped BBQ dinner which came with 2 sides and a square of cornbread each. They also had chicken, catfish, whiting and crab cakes. The collards were firm and tasty, as was the cole slaw. The fries were frozen but freshly cooked and crispy. The cornbread was cold, but fresh and greaseless. The Virginia style ribs were fork tender and the chopped BBQ was extremely tender as well. Good quality with no fat or gristle. BUT the sauce was thin and bland with no heat at all. Total cost for the two dinners, under $20.

Conclusion. Good quality ingredients. Fresh food. Super clean. But very uninteresting. Maybe next time we'll try the fish. Or maybe there will not be a next time.
