Malaysian food cooked by Malay people

Fondey | Mar 10, 2004 10:13 PM

I am a Singaporean who grew up loving Malay food. Since I came to NYC all I can find is Malaysian and Indonesian restaurants that are owned and operated by ethnic Chinese from Malaysia and Indonesia.

Unfortunately the food is NOT the same. My boyfriend who has a great knowledge and love of other kinds of Asian cuisines asks me "How can you eat this indigestible greasy stuff?" I tell him that the Malaysian food cooked by Malay people in Singapore and Malaysia is VERY different. Eastanah, Penang,Nyonya, Taste Good etc. definitely don't cut it.

Does anyone know a restaurant in NYC that has Malay (or Nyonya) people preparing their own indigenious foods?
