malagueta for feijoada

alice1derland | May 18, 2003 12:54 PM

so i had another excellent dinner at malagueta last night. went with friends and split the fried yucca app, which of course was delicious. two of us had the feijoada for a main, which i had never had before. it was amazing. the collards- which i don't ordinarily fawn over, were perfectly cooked and made me feel like i should get to know more about that kind of green. the sausages and black beans were excellent and i could barely eat half of the dish. my bf had a grilled tuna special which was paired with a vegetable/couscous medley which was so full of flavor and tasted nothing like the sawdust couscous that i am used to. my notoriously-picky-eater-friend had a rack of lamb special served with a vegetable and rice medley, which was gone so quickly that none of us had a chance to ask for a taste. i also had a delicious lemonade with dinner that was not too sweet, but tart and cool and refreshing. for dessert, we had one of everything. i was a little disappointed that they didn't have any special desserts. i had the flan, my bf had the coconut pudding, and my friend had the passionfruit mousse- and she said that she would have ordered a second if she was not so full from the feijoada. and the waiters there are so nice and attentive, but not in a way that makes you feel rushed. it made me very sad that the place was so empty on a saturday night. anyway, my friends are south american and loved the feel of the place, and i know we will be back soon.
