Majoner - unusual cookie from bakery - what country? Recipe?

MidwesternerTT | Dec 5, 201808:36 PM     20

A small mystery for your holiday delight. (And I'll call the bakery if we can't figure it out). I'd like to find a recipe that describes the technique used to make these. Do you have a recipe, or more ideas on finding one?

I bought some mildly spiced cookies today labeled "MAJONER". Search on Google and on Eat Your Books finds no recipes for these, and only 1 baking-related page in Swedish (which might make sense in our Nordic-heritage state) . But that doesn't have a recipe and translates the word as "cakes". Because so many of the staff at the bakery are Hispanic, I'm thinking it may also be a favorite they've introduced.

The cookie is dark, flat , thin (1/8 inch thick) handcut squares of densely crisp cinnamon & other spices cookie with sliced almonds embedded.

Ingredients list (note - no eggs) :
Enriched wheat flour
Brown sugar
Almonds
Vegetable Margarine (from cottonseed oil, soybean oil)
Milk
Cinnamon
Spices
Baking Soda
